NSU Student Wins National Sorority Honor

Delta Zeta Sororitys National Council has announced the names of the 2001 Florence Hood Miner Award recipients. Amber Fite from Northeastern State University will receive the award. Fite was among only six recipients nationwide.
The Florence Hood Miner Award is given annually to members of Delta Zeta who are in their junior year and have made the greatest contributions to their college chapter and Delta Zeta through outstanding leadership on campus while maintaining a good academic record.

The award is named after National Historian Florence Hood Miner and is in recognition of her service as national vice president, editor of The LAMP of Delta Zeta, and many other national offices.

The women are exemplary representatives of Delta Zetas standards of excellence in leadership, scholarship, community service, and fostering the values of sisterhood. Delta Zeta Sorority congratulates them on their accomplishments.

Delta Zeta Sorority was founded on Miami Universitys campus in Oxford, Ohio in 1902. The sorority has over 140,000 alumnae and collegiate members in the United States and Canada. The Delta Zeta Foundation, a nonprofit organization, makes possible gifts and support for scholarships, leadership, philanthropy, and education.

Amber is a senior Public Relations and Advertising major, and is the current president of the Northeastern Student Government Association at NSU. After graduation her plans include studying Law, hopefully at TU, and moving on to a career in politics.

It is really such a prestigious honor to be one of the six young women to receive this national award, said Fite. Being a member of Delta Zeta has enabled me to excel in college. I wouldnt be the person I am today without their support.
Amber is the daughter of Ed Fite of Tahlequah and Kathy Manning from Muskogee. She is the granddaughter of Dr. Edward and Joan Fite and David and Patti Ford, and the great-granddaughter of both Irene Watts and Amanda Ford, all of Muskogee.
