NSU Announces Developmental Refocus, University Relations Addition
NSU Announces Developmental Refocus, University Relations Addition July 29Northeastern State University President Dr. Larry Williams recently announced the formation of a new University division designed to help the University meet the increasing challenges associated with escalating competition among higher education institutions and the evolving direction of state support for colleges and universities.
In announcing the creation of the University Relations division, Williams said that Dr. Neal Weaver has been named vice president for University Relations and Mr. John Gyllin has been added as the University-s director of Development and executive director of the NSU Foundation. Dr. Weaver will lead the University-s efforts in Alumni Relations (NSU Alumni Association), Development (NSU Foundation), Public Relations (Advertising, Media Relations, Web Site Development, Publications, Video Services, etc.) and Community/Government Relations.
The University Relations division is designed to support the primary mission of the University by pursuing the overall advancement of the institution through positive relationships with internal and external constituencies, and by establishing, cultivating, and maintaining a network of volunteers and supporters who will provide the additional human and capital resources necessary for the ongoing success of the University.
-We are facing the very real challenge of preserving the outstanding quality of the University during a time when our operating budgets have been severely reduced,- said Williams. -Over the past three years, we have reorganized the University and dramatically reduced our costs while enhancing the quality and relevancy of our programs. The creation of the University Relations division is another important step in preparing our University for continued success.-
As director of Development and executive director of the NSU Foundation, Gyllin will lead the development and fund-raising efforts of Oklahoma-s premier regional university, while coordinating the activities of the NSU Foundation, which encourages, receives, invests, and disburses private support on behalf of the University.
Gyllin brings a wealth of experience in higher education and university relations to his position. Before coming to Northeastern, he worked at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, where he served in several capacities including director of Alumni Relations and most recently, Director of Development. Previously, Gyllin worked in the Student Affairs department at Muskingum College in Ohio.
-We are delighted to welcome John to the Northeastern family,- said President Williams. -He is a dynamic and important addition to our University and I am confident his leadership at the University and with the Foundation will help us achieve our goals, assist our students, and meet the expectations of our communities.-
For Gyllin, the position is the perfect union of his love of higher education and development work. -To me, a university is the center of its community,- he said. -My job is to show individuals the impact they can have on their community through their continued support of the University and its mission.-
A Cocoa Beach, Florida, native, Gyllin holds a bachelor's and master's degree in business administration from Henderson.
