NSU to Present Nippon 2006

TAHLEQUAH - Students from Japan NSU will take the stage for Nippon 2006 at the Northeastern State University Center for Performing Arts at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 23 and Friday, March 24.

Tickets will be available at the UC Lobby on March 7, 20, and 21 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $3 per person. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the door on the night of each performance.

"We would like to share our culture with NSU students and the Tahlequah community," said Haruka Fukuda, member of JNSU. "We hope they have a great time with us. We will do the best."

The two-hour program introduces Japanese regions with dancing, singing, and skits.

"You will see several different Japanese cultural dances and songs," said Fukuda. "We would like you to feel that you are traveling in Japan so the show is going to be like a travel tour."

The mission of JNSU is to promote an appreciation for and an understanding of the Japanese culture in the NSU and Tahlequah community. JNSU currently consists of more than 60 members and is open to all NSU students.

"It was a very successful program last year and was the talk of the town for a week following the show," said Dr. Thomas Salmon, associate professor of Optometry and sponsor for the JNSU organization. "The students created such a great show that I'm sure people in the community are looking forward to this year\'d5s performance."

NSU is proud to be a partner with NCN, a recruiting organization that works exclusively with Japanese students who are seeking educational opportunities in the United States. NCN places qualified students in select ESL programs on college campuses across the nation. Northeastern is currently home to more than 160 Japanese students.
