TAHLEQUAH Visitors to the D.W. Correll Museum in Catoosa will soon be greeted by a masterpiece from several Northeastern State University students and their professor.

The city of Catoosa commissioned Lance Hunter, associate professor of Art, and a group of students to create a mural to be placed on the outside wall of the museum that highlights the history of the city. Hunter and the group of Independent Studies students conceptualized and created the mural during Winter Intersession at NSU.

For many of these students, creating this mural is a once-in-a-lifetime shot while they're here at NSU, said Hunter. I don't do projects like this very often, a lot of things have to come together at the right time to make them work.

The mural, depicting historic Route 66 and other points of interest within the city and museum, should be in place by the end of January. Funding for the project was provided by the city of Catoosa.
