NSU celebrates Black History Month

(Tahlequah, Okla.)-- Black History Month events continue at Northeastern State University. The NSU Black Heritage Committee is celebrating Black History Month with free educational events throughout February and has worked with several different campus departments to organize four informative presentations.

Previously this month, two event information tables were createda black inventors information display and a table with information discussing the Black Lives Matter movement.

The next event this month is an event coordinated by NSU, the John Hope Franklin Center for Reconciliation, Inc., the NSU Department of History and the NSU Black Heritage Committee.

Individuals can watch The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till, a documentary presentation on the life and legacy of the murder of Emmett Till. A discussion will follow the documentary presentation, which is scheduled forThursday, Feb. 18 at 6:30 p.m. in NSUs Webb building, room 614. Refreshments will be provided.

The last scheduled event is a screening of Boomtown: An American Journey. The historical retrospective focuses on the booms and busts of Tulsa, Oklahoma, its cultural challenges, and the impact that wealth from oil has had on the region. This event is scheduled forFeb. 25 at 6 p.m. in NSUs Webb building room 614. This event is a partnership between the Black Heritage Committee and the Center for Tribal Studies.
