NSU’s Department of Music to bring new music never played in Oklahoma
(Tahlequah, Okla.)-- Northeastern State Universitys Wind Ensemble will host a music-filled night featuring multiple pieces including one that has never been played in the Sooner State.The show is onFeb. 25, 2016, at7 p.m. in the Center for Performing Arts on the Tahlequah campus.
The pice de rsistance is called Concerto for Trombone and Wind Ensemble by Oklahoma Premiere Dana Wilson and will feature NSUs own Norman Wika, director of bands, on trombone and Robert Bailey, emeritus director of bands, as conductor.
This concert is a great opportunity to hear some standard works for wind ensemble, as well as a brand new piece that has never been performed in the state of Oklahoma, Wika said.
The band will also play other songs including Mother Earth Fanfare by David Maslanka, La Procession du Rocio by Joaquin Turina/arr. Alfred Reed, Second Suite in F by Gustav Holst, and Concerto for Trombone and Wind Ensemble.
Tickets will be available for purchase in the CPA box office beginning at6:30 p.m. onFeb. 25. Tickets are priced at $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and students.
The following evening, NSUs Department of Music will be featuring a guest artist recital. Angela Winter, professor of horn and director of bands at Adams State University, will perform a program of solo horn music onFeb. 26 at 7 p.m. in the Center for Performing Arts.
Angela Winter is an outstanding horn player who brings a high level of artistry and musicianship to her performances, Wika said.
This recital will showcase the wide range of musical colors possible with a master horn player.
Tickets for this event will be available for purchase in the CPA box office beginning at6:30 p.m. onFeb. 26. Tickets are priced $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and students.
