NSU Honors Program Receives Grant From National Collegiate Honors Council
Northeastern Oklahoma University hosted the inaugural Honors Program Retreat, August 11-12 at Camp Egan. The successful retreat featuring team building, mentoring tactics and more was made possible by a grant from the National Collegiate Honors Council. More than 30 students attended the successful retreat.
The $1,000 grant will also be used to support research by undergraduate student and NSU Honors Program President, Courtney Callahan. Callahans project focuses on honors programs and their effect on student retention.
The Honors Program is a unique four-year scholarship award offered to approximately 30 new freshmen each year who have a minimum ACT score of 28 or above and a 3.5 GPA. The program is designed to challenge academically talented students and enrich their learning experience.
Honors students are mentored by distinguished faculty members and work with peers in enhanced courses, pursue independent research, and take part in co-curricular enrichment activities, cultural events, and field trips.
In addition to receiving an academic scholarship, honors students are eligible to enroll in special courses, have library lending privileges comparable to graduate students, and receive special recognition at graduation.
