Northeastern MASTEP Application Deadline Extended for July Science Classes
TAHLEQUAH Northeastern State University has extended the application deadline for the July Science classes in its Mathematics and Science Teachers Enhancement Program (MASTEP) until April 9. The classes are Inquiry to Geology and Astronomy. Funded by the National Science Foundation Teacher Enhancement Grant, MASTEP provides professional development for middle-school mathematics and science teachers in rural, Northeastern Oklahoma.
Each summer, MASTEP participants will take two graduate level mathematics courses or two graduate level science courses during an intensive four-week program and will develop an instructional plan that they will implement during the following school year. MASTEP personnel will support the implementation of the plan. The project will serve approximately 150 teachers over a three-year period.
MASTEP is open to teachers of mathematics or science at the middle-school level (typically grades 6, 7, or 8, although these grade levels may vary in some schools) who demonstrate a need for additional content knowledge in mathematics or science.
Participants in the program will receive:
A summer stipend of $1,000 (based on attending 20 days of class during
the summer*);
An additional stipend of $500 upon submission of a final report concerning
the implementation of the course modifications they developed during the
summer;
Six hours of graduate credit in science. (Fees and tuition will be free
to participants.)
The opportunity to apply for MASTEP Supply Grants (up to $500) to purchase
supplies to implement course modifications.
The opportunity to apply for MASTEP Travel Grants (up to $500) to attend
state, regional, or national mathematics or science professional meetings.
