Dr. Kay Grant Appointed as Dean of College of Education
TAHLEQUAH Northeastern State University is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Kay Grant, Ed.D., as dean of the College of Education.
Dr. Kay Lallier Grant joined the faculty of Northeastern State University in 1985 as an instructor and field service coordinator in the College of Education. A native of Kansas, Dr. Grant brings to her position as dean thirty years of experience in the field of Education.
Northeastern is extremely pleased to have an individual of Dr. Grants caliber oversee its education program, said NSU President Dr. Larry Williams. Under her continued guidance, Northeastern can expect to see many wonderful opportunities in the College of Education.
A 1973 graduate of the University of Kansas in Lawrence with a double major in Psychology and Human Development and Family Life, she first took her training into the classroom as a kindergarten teacher in Haskell, Oklahoma, and as an early childhood development specialist in Muskogee. Dr. Grant became director for Muskogees Preschool for the Handicapped while working on her Master of Arts in Special Education/Mental Retardation at the University of Tulsa.
As assistant professor of Curriculum and Instruction at NSU, Dr. Grant earned a Doctorate of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a Specialization in Early Childhood from Oklahoma State University in 1990. To fulfill doctoral requirements, she completed a dissertation entitled, The Meaning that Children Ascribe to Print as a Function of Experience with Big Books.
In 1992, Dr. Grant was named director of Early Childhood Education for Muskogee Public Schools, a post she held until her return to NSU in 1999 as associate professor and assistant dean of the College of Education. In May 2001, she was appointed interim dean.
Dr. Grant is widely published and an active participant
in several professional organizations. She is a member-at-large of the
executive board of the Oklahoma Association for Colleges of Teacher Education
and past president for the Oklahoma Association for Childhood Education
International. She has presented at numerous regional, state, and local
conferences on teacher education and other topics.
