Trumpet Artist Scott Wendholt to Perform With NSU Jazz Band at 36th Annual Green Country Jazz Festival

TAHLEQUAH Northeastern State Universitys Green Country Jazz Festival will take place Monday, March 3, 2003. Performing in the evening concert with the NSU Jazz Band will be trumpet artist Scott Wendholt.

Wendholts impressive career includes more than 30 recordings to his credit with artists such as Kenny Garrett, Cyrus Chestnut, and Christian McBride. Scott has also been a leader on five CDs for the Doubletime and Criss Cross labels. He has also performed with ensembles such as the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, the Bob Mintzer Big Band, the Buddy Rich Big Band, and Maria Schneider's Big Band. He was honored to be asked to join the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra (formerly the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra) to fill the "trumpet soloist" chair previously held by the legendary Thad Jones. Wendholt was a featured soloist with this ensemble on the Grammy nominated recording, Lickety Split. In addition to his performing credits, Wendholt is in demand internationally as an educator and is on the faculty for Jamey Aebersolds Summer Jazz Camps.

Scott is truly one of todays finest young jazz musicians, said Will Campbell, NSU director of Jazz Studies. Not only has Scott performed with some of the most influential musicians in the jazz genre, he has been selected to perform in world renowned ensembles such as the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band and the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. We are thrilled that he will be our guest artist this year.

The evening concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the NSU Center for Performing Arts. Tickets are $8.00 general admission or $6.00 for student groups of 10 or more.

During the day of the festival, junior high and high school jazz bands will perform for judges at the NSU Center for the Performing Arts. There will also be a clinic with Mr. Wendholt for students attending the festival. These performances are open to the public.
