Northeastern to Hold Summer Technology Academy
TAHLEQUAH Summer 2003 will be a special time for 24 junior high and high school students from Tahlequah and surrounding communities as Northeastern State University offers the technology academy titled Todays Technology: Tomorrows Application in Business and Industry. Hosted by Northeasterns College of Math, Science and Nursing, the commuter academy will be held on the Tahlequah campus from June 9 through June 27. Staffed by NSU faculty and area educators, the three-week program will focus on mathematics, computer science, programming, environmental monitoring, graphical analysis, physics and, engineering. Field trips are a part of the activities planned to make these three weeks a valuable experience for all involved.
Who Should Apply? Applications will be accepted from students who are currently in 9th, 10th, or 11th grade. Students applying should have a B or better average in their school work and an interest in the areas of technology and its applications in business and industry. Special consideration will be given to highly motivated individuals from groups traditionally under-represented in the sciences, computer sciences, and mathematics.
The Program. The classes will consist of two three-hour sessions per day, the first 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the second from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Lunches will be provided for the participants.
Cost. The program will be offered at no cost to the students. The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education has funded this program to enhance the science and mathematics experience of qualified 9th-, 10th-, and 11th-graders. Participants will receive a $100 travel stipend to defray the cost of commuting. KATS will provide in town transportation for interested students, which will reduce the stipend to $75.
