NSU Confers Degrees to Spring/Summer 2003 Graduates
TAHLEQUAH Northeastern State University recently celebrated its 99th commencement service on May 10 in Tahlequah and May 12 in Broken Arrow. Northeastern held services at both locations to accommodate graduate candidates from the Universitys five academic colleges and the professional College of Optometry.
More Grads. According to Bill Nowlin, NSU Dean of Enrollment Management/Registrar, overall figures for the academic year show a more than 11 percent increase in graduates over two years ago. Northeastern conferred nearly 1900 degrees for the past academic year.
People have long realized the value of a Northeastern education and the impact that a Northeastern graduate has in the workplace, said NSU President Dr. Larry Williams. That being said, it gives me great pleasure to announce our most recent class of graduates and to officially welcome them as alumni of Oklahomas premier regional university.
For the first time in Northeasterns history, NSUs College of Business and Technology led the graduate totals, surpassing the College of Education, which ranked second in the years overall graduates. NSUs College of College of Social and Behavioral Sciences rounded out the top three colleges in overall graduate totals.
Additional Recognition. Additional recognition was given to NSU Circle of Excellence Award winners and NSU retirees throughout the Spring 2003 Commencement ceremonies.
The Circle of Excellence Award winners were Dr. John Mercer (teaching), Dr. Celia Stall-Meadows (service), and Dr. Thomas Salmon (research). These awards recognize outstanding faculty members in the areas of teaching, service, and research. These honorees will receive a brick that will be placed in the front of Seminary Hall and their choice of either a new computer or $2,500 to put toward professional advancement.
Northeastern bid farewell to 274 years of collective knowledge and experience with the retirement of 14 faculty members.
