Bio

Dr. Margaret Bates serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor and Academic Fieldwork Coordinator for the Occupational Therapy Program at NSU. She completed her Masters of Occupational Therapy (MOT) degree at Texas Woman's University in 2004. Dr. Bates established a private therapy practice in 2005 which remains in operation to date. When she transitioned to education in 2016, she brought with her a rich history of experience both in occupational therapy practice and business management. In May of 2019, she completed a post-professional clinical Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) with foci in education, research, and leadership. Practice and research interests include interprofessional education and collaborative practice, occupational therapy's place in primary care and health management, advocating for authentic occupational therapy, and development of a private-pay model of practice to promote greater access to valuable occupational therapy services. Dr. Bates continues to serve as a mentor to occupational therapists from past years in private practice and now NSU OT alumni. She has a passion for her profession and a service heart.
