Bio
Jameie Combs joined Northeastern State University in 2003 as an adjunct lecturer teaching
American Sign Language (ASL). Currently, she is a full-time faculty member teaching
ASL course levels I-IV and Deaf Community and Career Seminar within the American Sign
Language Studies Minor Program. In the classroom, she practices a total immersion
method in which the use of speech is not allowed. In addition to her love of teaching,
Jameie also serves as a Nationally Certified Interpreter for the Deaf. With over twenty-five
years of professional experience, Jameie holds two national certifications (CI and
CT) and is a Member of the National Registry of Interpreters. Additionally, she is
certified in Oklahoma at a Level V, and is a registered interpreter with the Oklahoma
State Department of Education, and certified Level III Support Service Provider for
the DeafBlind Community.

Jameie Combs is pursuing additional training in serving those with atypical sign language
use. She is also interested in exploring the French linguistic origins of ASL.
Jameie Combs is active in pursuing professional skill development in linguistics and
culture, keeping up with current trends within The Deaf Community that she can share
with her students. Her primary goal is to train up effective communicators and future
allies of the Deaf Community.
