Bio

Dr. Heidi W. Jenkins is an Assistant Professor in the Educational Leadership Department and teaches in the Library Media and Information Technology program at NSU. She earned her Ph.D. in Education: Curriculum Studies from OSU.
Dr. Jenkins has 29 years of experience in public education as both a science teacher and a school librarian having served primarily at the secondary level. She began teaching in the LMIT program at NSU as an adjunct professor in 2022 and moved to a full-time position in the Fall of 2023.
Dr. Jenkins has been published and has presented at local, state, and international conferences sharing her research into nonviolence education, nonviolence in young adult literature, and the exploration of mental illness through young adult literature and non-fiction resources. More recently she has presented on the process surrounding book challenges in school libraries.

School librarian professional practice including mentorship, leadership, and collaborative educational partnerships; integration of information technology into school library programs; nonviolence education and literature; and ethical and equitable access for all users.
Teaching interests include childrens and young adult literature and collection development and school library administration including policies, procedures, practices, and on-going advocacy.
