Bio

Svetlana Koltovskaia is a tenure-track assistant professor of English and a Director of the ESL Academy at the Department of Languages and Literature at Northeastern State University. She holds a Ph.D. in TESOL/Applied Linguistics from Oklahoma State University. Additionally, she is a Fulbright FLTA alumni and has previously worked at Marshall University in WV. Svetlana holds several prominent positions within professional organizations, including AAAL and TESOL International Association. Currently, she serves as the Chair of the Social Media Sub-committee of the AAAL's OEOC as well as the member of the TESOL Awards Professional Council (APC) and the Chair-Elect and Newsletter Co-editor for TESOL's SLWIS. Svetlana takes great pride in her indigenous heritage, originating from the Republic of Sakha (Russia).

Svetlana's scholarly pursuits revolve around the domains of computer-assisted language learning, L2 writing, and L2 assessment. She actively contributes to research in these areas, with a particular emphasis on exploring the utilization and effectiveness of AI tools such as Grammarly and ChatGPT.
Svetlana offers a range of content courses at NSU, including Traditional Grammar and Usage (ENGL 3253), Linguistics (ENGL 4083), Methods & Second Language Acquisition Theory (ENGL 4093), as well as first-Year Composition (ENGL 1113), Composition II (ENGL 1213), and Elementary Russian (RUS 1113).
