Northeastern State University Speech-Language Pathology students earn top scores in Oklahoma
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Northeastern State University’s Speech-Language Pathology students have set a new benchmark for excellence, earning the highest scores in Oklahoma on the national Praxis exam—the critical assessment of professional knowledge for future speech-language pathologists.
The achievement places NSU at the top among all SLP programs statewide and underscores the university’s growing reputation for academic strength and professional preparation.
“This outstanding accomplishment speaks volumes about the dedication of our students and faculty,” NSU President Rodney Hanley said. “At NSU, we are committed to equipping graduates with the knowledge, skills and real-world experiences they need to transform lives and strengthen communities. These results are proof that our students are among the best-prepared in the state and ready to lead in their profession.”
NSU’s SLP program prepares graduates to evaluate and treat speech, language and communication disorders across all ages. With hands-on clinical training, students enter the field ready to serve in schools, hospitals, rehabilitation centers and private practices throughout the region.
Faculty attribute the program’s success to a unique blend of mentorship and professional practice.
“We believe the keys to success are building strong, personal relationships with our students and bringing our own real-world experiences into the classroom,” Dr. Jamie Thomas, assistant professor of Speech-Language Pathology, said. “I still see clients during university breaks, and another faculty member works weekends at a hospital. We practice what we teach.”
