Tahlequah and Broken Arrow Campuses Open Doors for College Goal Sunday
TAHLEQUAH This February, students and their parents can get one-on-one, expert advice from Northeastern State University about financial aid and planning for college during the upcoming statewide event, College Goal Sunday.
On Sunday, February 8, students and their families can attend College Goal Sunday and visit with NSU financial aid counselors and college staff in person from 2-4 p.m. in the Senator Herb Rozell (University Center) Ballroom on the Tahlequah campus and in the Visitor's Center Gallery (Building A) in Broken Arrow. In a single afternoon, students and their families can become familiar with college entrance requirements, learn about planning for college, and obtain on-site assistance in filling out financial aid application forms. (Those interested in this service should bring their latest tax information to the event.) In addition, valuable information will be shared about the benefits of attending college, student support services, areas of study, and different degree programs.
The College Goal Sunday event takes the fear out of planning for college by providing students and their families with sound information about enrollment requirements, financial aid opportunities, and more, said NSU President Dr. Larry Williams. "We're excited to offer this service to the community and look forward to showcasing the quality and affordability of a Northeastern education."

College Goal Sunday is sponsored in part by Lumina Foundation for Education; Oklahoma GEAR UP; the Oklahoma Guaranteed Student Loan Program; Oklahoma Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators; Sonic, America's Drive-In; and the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education State Regents.
"This is a very relaxed, friendly way for students and parents to find the resources necessary to make attending college more affordable," Chancellor Paul Risser said. "In addition, it's a great time to find out more about what grades to make and what classes to take to be successful in college."
The College Goal Sunday program was created by the Indiana Student Financial Aid Association with funding from Lilly Endowment, Inc., and with supplemental support from Lumina Foundation for Education.
Oklahoma's GEAR UP grant has been matched by more than $25 million from state and partner resources. With funds totaling $45.5 million, GEAR UP receives 45 percent of total funding from the federal government and 55 percent from other organizations.
