TAHLEQUAH Northeastern State University invites area educators to the Teachers Dialog for Support Rediscovering Literacy Conference to be held October 16 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Muskogee High School (3200 E Shawnee). The second annual conference focuses on networking among educators. Topics include readers workshop, literature circles, book clubs, etc. Staff development certificates will be available for all participants.

Yetta Goodman, from the University of Arizona, will serve as the keynote speaker for the event. A professor in the College of Education in the Department of Language, Reading and Culture, Goodman consults with education departments and speaks at conferences throughout the world regarding issues of language, teaching, and learning with implications for language arts curricula. In addition to her research in early literacy, miscue analysis, and the reading and writing processes, Goodman has popularized the term kidwatching, encouraging teachers to be professional observers of the language and learning development of their students. Goodman is a past president of National Council for Teacher Education, has served on the International Reading Association Board of Directors, and been an active member of commissions and committees. A spokesperson for whole language philosophy, Goodmans extensive writing is focused on classrooms, students, and teachers.
