NSU to Present P.C.D.U., The Conquest For Capitalism

Published: 2006-10-18

TAHLEQUAH - Northeastern State University College of Liberal Arts, Department of Performing Arts, and the NSU Theatre Company will present "P.C.D.U. and the Conquest for Capitalism" on Nov. 1-4 at 8 p.m. in the Shawnee Street Theatre.

The show is a pairing of two one-act plays, "Bread and Rice, or Geometry is Yellow" by Jos+ Bellido and "The Jackass" by Jos+ Ruibal.

Directed by NSU Assistant Professor of Theater Arts Brent Surdukan, both plays are comical treatments of the disturbingly familiar face of capitalism. In the first piece, a team of scheming, over-zealous superheroes donned in tights plot to take over the world, but a mysterious visitor hinders their plans. The second play involves a charming con artist whose plan begins when he, with the help of a mechanical animal, monopolizes all the business in his small village.

"The show speaks volumes about what is going on in the world today, how people in power use different tactics to get us to do what they want us to do," said Surdukan. "Everyone needs to be aware of that."

The NSU production will enter the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts American College Theatre Festival. NSU is hosting a state festival, with the top show advancing to a regional festival held in February. Regional shows may be invited to perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. in April. Started in 1969, the festival hosts approximately 600 universities and colleges from all over the United States.

Tickets are $6. For reservations, please call 918-456-5511, ext. 2798.
