NSU Dean Presents at India Forum

TAHLEQUAH Northeastern State University College of Science and Health Professions Interim Dean Dr. Doug Penisten recently attended the Third International United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization-Essilor Forum on Vision and Development: Speeding up for the Next Milestones in New Delhi, India.

Penisten attended the conference as a representative of the president of the World Council of Optometry, to present a lecture WCO Mission, Goals and Achievements.

WCO is the collective voice of 200,000 optometrists worldwide, said Penisten, who serves as vice chair of the Education Committee of WCO. Our mission is to facilitate the enhancement and development of eye and vision care worldwide.

The forum brought together public health representatives, educators and eye specialists to discuss better ways of promoting eye health and care in India. Representatives from a number of health organizations, including the World Health Organization, presented topics at the forum.

India is the second-most populous country in the world, and was targeted to provide the most benefit, said Penisten.

For over 25 years, Penisten has worked with international organizations to promote eye health and care. Penisten also serves as the associate dean of the NSU Oklahoma College of Optometry.
