Learn How to Create A Music Label At NSU Workshop

Published: 2006-11-21

TAHLEQUAH Ever wanted to learn how to start your own independent music label? Well this is your chance.

Northeastern State University and the Sequoyah Institute are hosting a Starting Your Own Independent Music Label, a workshop in conjunction with Enchanted Christmas, on Friday, Dec. 8 at noon in the NSU Jazz Lab.

This workshop provides an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in the recording industry to learn about the role independent labels have, said Megan White, director of the Sequoyah Institute.

Singer and producer Lee Lessack, founder of LML Music, will conduct the workshop. A native of Philadelphia, Lessack founded LML Music in 1995. The independent label is dedicated to distributing the finest in cabaret, jazz and Broadway vocals.

Now distributing for over 65 vocalists in the U.S. and Canada, the LML recently signed distribution deals in Australia, Ireland and the United Kingdom.

Lessack, a shining star on the international cabaret scene, has toured extensively in the U.S. and Europe to sold out audiences. He has released four albums, proving himself both as a performer and recording artist.

Enchanted Christmas features four of Broadways most talented voices. Lessack, Joanne O'Brien, Brian Lane Green and John Boswell create a breathtaking holiday performance on Friday, Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the NSU Center for Performing Arts.

Enchanted Christmas is sponsored by NSU, The Sequoyah Institute, and Tahlequah City Hospital.

Tickets for the show are $20 for adults, $18 for NSU alumni, $16 for NSU employees, $14 for senior citizens, $10 for students and children, and $5 for NSU students. A special holiday discount of $10 per ticket is available for groups of 10 or more. For ticket information, contact 918-458-2075.

Additional funding is provided by the Oklahoma Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
