NSU Increases Base Pay for Part Time Employees

Published: 2007-07-30

TAHLEQUAH In an effort to remain competitive in the area workforce, Northeastern State University has raised its base pay for part-time employees.

An increase in the federal minimum wage went into effect on July 24, said Martha Albin, director of human resources. At the same time, the university increased our base pay above what was mandated by the federal government in an effort to remain competitive locally.

The federal minimum wage increased from $5.15 an hour to $5.85 an hour, while NSU raised the minimum pay from $5.60 an hour to $6.15 an hour.

As the federal minimum wage continues to increase over the next two years, we will continue to try to keep bumping up our minimum pay to stay competitive with other local businesses, said Albin.

The federal minimum wage is scheduled to increase to $6.55 on July 24, 2008 and then to $7.25 on July 24, 2009.
