Discover Big Band Sound At 'Club Swing'
Published: 2007-01-12
TAHLEQUAH - Discover the lush vocal harmonies of Five by Design as they bring the
Swing Era to life at Northeastern State University.
Five by Design, a Minneapolis-based musical group, will present "Club Swing" on Friday,
Feb. 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the NSU Center for the Performing Arts. The one-night performance
is sponsored by NSU, The Sequoyah Institute, and Cox Pharmacy.
"Five by Design breathes new life into the rich sounds of swing music, singing hits
from a bygone era," said Megan White, director of The Sequoyah Institute. "At Club
Swing, the music's hot, the drinks are cold and the dance floor's always open."
From the frenetic paced opening of Benny Goodman's "Bugle Call Rag" to the show's
finale that features Louis Prima's "Sing, Sing, Sing," Five by Design takes audiences
on an unforgettable musical journey.
Set in the fictional Club Swing, a soon-to-be shuttered nightclub built during the
heyday of swing, the performance features a number of blockbuster hits including Nat
King Cole's "Mona Lisa" and Cole Porter's "Begin the Beguine."
The stage design evokes the ambiance of a nightclub cur from a vintage movie. The
club's marquee floats above the orchestra while surrounded by palm trees, an art deco
bar and linen covered tables.
Tickets for the show are $20 for adults, $18 for NSU alumni, $16 for NSU employees,
$14 for senior citizens, $10 for students and children, and $5 for NSU students. A
special holiday discount of $10 per ticket is available for groups of 10 or more.

Additional funding is provided by the Oklahoma Arts Council and the National Endowment
for the Arts.
