Celebrate 60th Homecoming With Jack Dobbins

Published: 2007-09-14

TAHLEQUAH Come and celebrate 60 years of Jack Dobbins involvement in Northeastern State University during a special recognition following the Homecoming game on Saturday, Sept. 29.

The second annual Come Home to the Dome will honor Dobbins years of dedication to NSU athletics as a student, athlete, coach, athletic director, alumni and fan. Dobbins will receive the Presidents Award for Community Service during halftime of the football game.

During his years as athletic director, Dobbins and his wife, Zula Belle, created a tradition of hosting a Homecoming party at their home every year following the game. Come Home to the Dome was inspired by that tradition.

After graduating in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science in Education Biology/Health and Physical Education, Dobbins maintained his involvement with his alma mater. Dobbins earned a Master of Education from Oklahoma State University and his doctorate from the University of Tulsa.

He has received many honors and awards for outstanding service in the field of sports at NSU, OSU and TU. He retired from NSU after 35 years as Athletic Director, and also served as basketball coach. He was honored as a Distinguished Alumnus in 1969 and has served on the NSU Alumni Association Board.

Come Home to the Dome will be held at the Indoor Practice Facility, adjacent to Doc Wadley Stadium. The event features all-you-can-eat BBQ, complimentary beer, inflatables for kids, big screen TVs and a dance floor.

You can also meet the 2007 alumni honorees, catch up with old friends, and unwind after an exciting game in a fun-filled atmosphere.

Tickets are $8 per adult. Children 12 years old and under eat for free. To reserve tickets, contact the NSU Alumni Association at 918-458-2143.
