TAHLEQUAH - Northeastern State University will build on its commitment to provide
a quality education at an affordable price through a new scholarship program in conjunction
with Oklahoma's Promise - the Oklahoma Higher Learning Access Program.
NSU President Dr. Larry Williams recently unveiled "YES! Northeastern - an OHLAP Partnership,"
a program providing eligible incoming freshmen students with a four-year scholarship
to cover tuition and mandatory fees and provide an allowance of up to $500 per semester
for additional academic expenses at the University.
"As Oklahoma's premier regional university, Northeastern is committed to providing
a quality education at an affordable price," said Williams. "Since its inception,
the OHLAP program has granted thousands of students access to higher education. YES!
Northeastern is our promise to provide an affordable education for the residents of
our state."
OHLAP will cover the tuition portion of a student's college education if their family's
income is $50,000 or less and meets other requirements. YES! Northeastern will supplement
OHLAP to cover mandatory fees and an allowance for University housing or textbooks.
The tuition assistance provided by OHLAP and the support from YES! Northeastern is
worth nearly $18,000 over the four years OHLAP-eligible students attend Northeastern
State University.
During the fall semester, there were 937 students receiving OHLAP assistance at NSU,
including 310 freshmen. YES! Northeastern will be available to incoming freshmen beginning
in fall 2007.
Students or parents who would like more information on the YES! Northeastern program
can contact the Office of Scholarships at 918-444-3470 or visit the YES! Northeastern
