TAHLEQUAH Discover the magic behind the scenes of historic theatrical productions at a historic costume workshop hosted by Northeastern State University, The Sequoyah Institute and Advantage Audiology.
NSU alumna Cathy Turner will conduct the workshop on Saturday, March 10 at 2 p.m. in the NSU Jazz Lab, in conjunction with the performance of Camelot.
Cathy is a magnificent costume designer with an outstanding reputation, said Megan White, director of The Sequoyah Institute. During her time at Northeastern, she worked in costume production for a number of college productions. After she graduated, she continued doing costume design in her spare time, working with high schools and theater companies to create many eye-catching designs.
Turner started designing theater costumes while in high school in Tahlequah. She designed costumes for the first two summer productions of the Trail of Tears Drama. She continued her involvement through college, and remains active creating costumes for community theaters and high school theater productions throughout the area.
During the workshop, we will be looking at the King Arthur legend and different types of clothing from the Medieval and Renaissance periods, said Turner. Well also discuss the challenge of satisfying the vision of the theater production and the vision of the director.
Participants in the workshop are encouraged to bring their costumes to the workshop to show and discuss.
The following day, join NSU and The Sequoyah Institute for Camelot on Sunday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the NSU Center for the Performing Arts. Audience members are welcome to wear their Medieval and Renaissance costumes to the performance.
Tickets for the show are $20 for adults, $18 for NSU alumni, $16 for NSU employees, $14 for senior citizens, $10 for students and children, and $5 for NSU students. For ticket information, contact 918-458-2075.
