NSUOCO Student Receives $6,000 Scholarship

TAHLEQUAH Brian J. Zwanziger of Woodward, OK, was recently awarded a $6,000 scholarship by HOYA Vision Care. Zwanziger is a fourth-year student at Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry in Tahlequah.
As the $1,000 winner at NSUOCO, his patient case study was in competition with students from the 17 schools and colleges of optometry nationwide and in Puerto Rico. Judging was based on originality, application of technology involved, product knowledge and overall analysis and composition. Zwanziger also received a trip to Boston, Mass., from June 27 July 1, 2007, to accept the scholarship during the American Optometric Associations annual meeting.
Zwanziger is a member of Beta Sigma Kappa, the international honor society of optometry dedicated to stimulate scientific attainment and profound ethical practice, to support financially worthy research projects in vision and science and to recognize academic achievement. In April, he received the NSU Honor Society Award for excellence in academic achievement, citizenship, leadership, group participation and moral and social development.
Zwanziger is a 2003 graduate of Oklahoma State University and a 1999 graduate of Woodward High School. The son of Monty and Wanda Zwanziger, he will receive his Doctor of Optometry degree in May 2008.
