NSU Honors Outstanding Alumni During Homecoming

TAHLEQUAH Every year the Northeastern State University Alumni Association honors a select group of alumni during Homecoming week festivities.
Being honored this year are Teresa Miller, Distinguished Alumnus, Linda Hasler-Reid, Outstanding Young Alumnus, and Dr. Jack Dobbins, Presidents Award for Community Service.
An accomplished educator, writer and poet, Teresa Miller founded the Oklahoma Center for Poets and Writers in 1994. Miller earned her bachelors degree from Northeastern in 1973 and her masters in 1975.
She currently teaches creative writing for Oklahoma State University and is the executive producer and host for the television interview program Writing Out Loud in addition to her duties at the Center. She is also the author of a historical novel, Remnants of Glory, which she wrote while she was still in her twenties.
Her latest novel is Family Correspondence. Biographies of Miller can be found in Contemporary Authors and The International Who's Who of Authors.
Oklahomas 2007 Teacher of the Year, Linda Hasler-Reid knows the importance of quality education. After graduating summa cum laude from NSU in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts in English Education, she taught Spanish, English and journalism at the Muskogee 7th & 8th Grade Center for 12 years.
Hasler-Reid recently accepted a position with the Oklahoma Commission for Teacher Preparation, where she will work with colleges to help prepare teachers and work with other educators.
She is National Board Certified in World Languages. Hasler-Reid was named Outstanding English Education Graduate by the College of Education upon her graduation from NSU.
For 60 years, Jack Dobbins has proven his dedication to Northeastern State University. Even after graduating in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science in Education Biology/Health and Physical Education, Dobbins maintained his involvement with his alma mater. Dobbins earned a Master of Education from Oklahoma State University and his doctorate from the University of Tulsa.
He has received many honors and awards for outstanding service in the field of sports at NSU, OSU and TU. He retired from NSU after 35 years as Athletic Director, and also served as basketball coach. He was honored as a Distinguished Alumnus in 1969 and has served on the NSU Alumni Association Board.
Northeasterns outstanding alumni will be honored during halftime of the Homecoming game and at the post-game Come Home To The Dome event.
