President Williams Expected to Make Full Recovery
Published: 2007-03-26
TAHLEQUAH Dr. Larry Williams, president of Northeastern State University, has been transferred to a Tulsa rehabilitation center as his condition continues to steadily improve following a heart attack at his home on March 3.
Doctors are pleased with Williams progress since he underwent bypass surgery and have indicated to family members they expect the president to make a full recovery. The President has no previous history of heart disease.
Although university officials do not know yet when Williams will return to work, the institution continues to follow normal operating procedures while he is on medical leave.
Williams took the helm as NSUs fifteenth president on July 1, 1997 and has guided the institution through several major transitions, including record student enrollment, campus wide reorganization, and construction of a branch campus in Broken Arrow. His leadership has resulted in streamlining NSU's academic programs and providing opportunities for faculty development, along with an emphasis on expanding and improving NSU's Tahlequah campus and branch campuses in Muskogee and Broken Arrow.
In lieu of gifts and flowers, President Williams requests that donations be made to the NSU Foundation.
