Scottish Rite of McAlester Awards NSU Student Scholarship

Published: 2007-07-26

TAHLEQUAH The Scottish Rite of McAlester recently granted awarded graduate student Kristin Oller with a $16,000 scholarship for her studies in speech language pathology. As part of the scholarship, Oller has agreed to work for the McAlester Rite Care Clinic, which works with children with language disorders.

The scholarship was a one-time recruitment effort on the part of the Scottish Rite, said Dr. Karen Patterson, professor and department chair of Speech Language Pathology. The clinic was looking to expand their staff, and this turned into a win-win situation for Kristin and the clinic.

The Scottish Rite is the leading private benefactor for Childhood Language Disorders in the United States. Communication Disorders are the most common problem for children, affecting more than all other disorders combined.
