NSU Presents Wonder of the World

TAHLEQUAH The Northeastern State University College of Liberal Arts, Department of Performing Arts, NSU Theatre Company will present Wonder of the World on Nov. 27 - 30 at 8 p.m. at the NSU Playhouse.

The show was written by David Lindsay-Abaire, who won this years Pulitizer Prize for Drama for his play Rabbit Hole. First produced at the Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company and opening four months later on Broadway at the Manhattan Theatre Club, Wonder of the World is a madcap farce that contains strong language and material not appropriate for children.

Wonder of the World is directed by Dr. J. Nick Dickert, assistant professor of Theatre Arts. The play follows Cass (Krystle Williams, sophomore theatre major from Kellyville) who leaves her husband Kip when she discovers a bizarre and sickly twisted secret in his sweater drawer. Equipped with a list of over 200 things she always wanted to do including learn Swedish, find a sidekick, and have sex with a stranger the sweet-natured Cass boards a bus to Niagara Falls. On board, she meets the saccharine Lois (Natalie Morgan, junior theatre major from Muldrow) a wry alcoholic, abandoned by her husband, who plans to kill herself by riding a barrel over the falls.

In Niagara, the two share a hotel and Lois is soon distracted from her suicidal mission by Cass exploits, chiefly a fling with Captain Mike (Trey Clark, sophomore theatre major from Vera), a widower who pilots the Maid of the Mist tour boat with a fully stocked mini-bar. Throw in the husband-and-wife team of amateur private investigators (Brittainy Boyer, sophomore theatre major from Muskogee and Corey Pendelton, Cushing freshman), the desperate and needy Kip (John Thomason, sophomore theatre major from Pryor), three very peculiar theme-restaurant waitresses, and a psychologist who moonlights as a clown (all played by Anna Woodell, Henryetta junior) and the result is one madcap hysterical story.

Lindsay-Abaire likes to joke about things that really arent things we joke about, said dickert. The challenge and excitement is making his edgy humor on death, emotional anguish, divorce and sexual deviancy actually funny onstage.
