Kappa Delta Pi Chapter Receives Award

TAHLEQUAH The Northeastern State University Kappa Rho chapter of Kappa Delta Pi was recently honored at the 2007 KDP Convocation on Nov. 1-3 in Louisville, Kentucky.

The honor society for education majors received a Program Award for professional development for events organized during the 2006-2007 school year. The events included the annual Celebration of Teaching, working with the Community Food Bank of Tulsa and a literacy project titled Reading is Fun.

To be eligible for the award, the chapter must have targeted a diverse audience, utilized materials or human resources from the local community, involved the chapters alumni members, and provided evidence of successful events through evaluations or participant feedback.

NSU students attending the conference were KDP President Mariah Hix, Tahlequah, Vice President Lindsey Groom, Bristow, Membership Chair Carrie Lee-Ramos, Tahlequah, and Foundations Dawn Childress, Vian. Dr. Deborah Landry, department chair of Curriculum and Instruction at NSU, served as faculty sponsor for the trip.

Childress was also honored with a $500 J. Jay Hostetler Scholarship during the convocation.

Kappa Delta Pi is an International Honor Society in Education committed to recognizing excellence and fostering mutual cooperation, support, and professional growth for educational professionals.

The Kappa Rho Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi recently installed 47 new members into the organization at a special ceremony held on Friday, Oct. 26.
