Turner named to NSU Alumni Association board

Published: 2011-10-28

Michael Turner, business and community liaison for Tulsa Job Corps and holder of two degrees from Northeastern State University, has been named to the board of directors for NSUs Alumni Association.

Explaining his decision to join the board, Turner said, I love NSU. The opportunity to serve the alumni board is an honor and privilege. We are a group of committed individuals who share a desire to move the university forward.

As an NSU student, Turner was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and a varsity cheerleader. He graduated from NSU in 1991 with a bachelors degree in industrial operations and earned his masters degree in 1998.

Turner is a 2008 graduate of Leadership Oklahoma and serves on the administrative board and childrens council at Boston Avenue Methodist Church in Tulsa. He also serves on the State of Oklahoma Youth Council. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Tulsa and a Special Olympics of Oklahoma volunteer and parent.

From 1992-2002, Turner served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He left having attained the rank of captain.

Daniel Johnson, director of alumni services, said Turner brings an established reputation for effective administration to the board.

Turner was also a great student and has that personal relationship with the university, Johnson said. His wife is a former alumni director for NSU, so he has a great awareness of the opportunities and challenges associated with keeping our alumni community engaged. We look forward to the benefit of his knowledge and expertise.

The Alumni Association placed Turner on its board Sept. 24 and he has already participated in homecoming events and a phone campaign encouraging alumni to join the association.

I want to make available my time, energy and resources to the alumni relations staff, the board members and the students, Turner said. I want to reconnect alumni to the institution and to advocate the opportunities NSU offers to our community and region.

Turner lives in Tulsa with his wife Lisa, an NSU alumna, and their two daughters, Madison and Megan.
