NSU libraries to host 2010 Census information workshops

Published: 2011-10-10

Tahlequah and Broken Arrow, Okla.)--To familiarize people with online data and information about the 2010 Census, Northeastern State University is offering free workshops at its Tahlequah and Broken Arrow libraries.

How to Use the 2010 Census workshop will be held Oct. 27 at the John Vaughan Library and Nov. 3 at the NSUBA Library. Both workshops are 1-4 p.m. Steve Beleu, regional depository librarian for federal government information for the Oklahoma Department of Libraries, is the presenter.

Census information can be applied to a whole range of subjects, said Susan Woitte, instructor of library services for the NSU libraries. These workshops will show people how to access specific information from the Census Bureau site.

The workshops will teach participants how to access new data from the 2010 Decennial Census and single- and multi-year estimates data from the American Community Survey. Also to be discussed is the 2007 Economic Census and spotlight features of the Census home page.

I think the most important thing about these workshops is that as part of the Federal Depository Library Program the NSU libraries are committed to providing free access to and assistance with government information for NSU and all citizens in the surrounding communities, Woitte said.

The workshop is free and registration is open to the public. For more information or to register contact Susan Woitte at 918-444-3246 or Tom Rink on the Broken Arrow campus at 918-449-6457.
