NSU Career Services hosting Career Development Days

Published: 2011-09-09

(Tahlequah, Okla.) Northeastern State University Career Services is hosting Career Development Days, featuring an array of workshops to enhance job market skills, from Sept. 13-15.

The workshops, presented by area businesses, agencies and schools, are at multiple venues on NSUs Tahlequah, Muskogee and Broken Arrow campuses. Most are about 40 minutes and will be streamed live to permit participation on all campuses.

These development days are something we've wanted to do for a long time, said Gayle Anderson, NSU Career Services coordinator. We corresponded with employers and offered some ideas on presentation topics and their response was overwhelming.

The workshops are free and open to the public. Anderson encouraged NSU faculty to make allowances for students to attend or to bring their classes to pertinent seminars. She also said attendees can bring resumes some employers have expressed interest in conducting preliminary interviews and the Central Intelligence Agency will critique resumes and conduct mock interviews.

Workshop topics include interviewing tips and techniques, getting into graduate school, developing positive social media networks, financial literacy, dressing for success and military service after college.

Cherokee Nation Businesses, the Department of Veterans Affairs, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Edward Jones, Walgreens and Muskogee Public Schools are among those presenting workshops.

A complete schedule of NSU Career Development Days workshops is available on the Career Services web site. Click the workshops tab to access the timetable.

The Career Services site also includes a link to establish an NSU RiverHawk Recruiting System Account for students and alumni, a calendar listing Career Services events, resume-building assistance and a document outlining etiquette for job fairs.
