Published: 2011-10-17

(Tahlequah, Okla.)--Bringing her gift for vocal jazz interpretation to Tahlequah, Denise Donatelli will perform with Northeastern State Universitys acclaimed Jazz Ensemble in the second concert of NSUs 2011-12 Green Country Jazz Series.

The ensemble performs with Donatelli on Nov. 7 at the NSU Jazz Lab in Tahlequah at 7 p.m. She will also lead a jazz masterclass at the Jazz Lab beginning at 2 p.m.

Donatellis singing is a pleasure to hear, said Dr. Tommy Poole, NSU director of jazz studies. "When I heard her latest CD on her Web site, I thought to myself, Wow! The voice, the musicianship, the arrangements its all there.

Her musical arrangements are mostly done by Grammy nominated Geoffrey Keezer, who opened this seasons Green Country Jazz Series. We are delighted that she is joining us for a concert.

Donatellis 2010 release on the Savant label, When Lights Are Low, received a Grammy nomination for Best Jazz Vocal Album and Keezer was also nominated for Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying a Vocalist for his work on the track, Don't Explain.

Donatellis two previous album releases are 2008s What Lies Within and In the Company of Friends from 2005. A native of Allentown, Pa., and living in Los Angeles, she has performed in some of the nations top jazz venues, including Dizzys Club Coca Cola at the Lincoln Center in New York and San Diegos Birch Theater. Her voice has been heard on television commercials and episodes of Frasier and The Simpsons.

The Jazz Lab is at 315 N. Muskogee Ave. in Tahlequah. Tickets to the concert are $6 with an NSU student ID and $12 for the general public. Admission to the masterclass is free. For reservations or more information contact the Jazz Lab manager at 918-444-4603.
