(Tahlequah, Okla.) If you are a golf superhero or just a weekend duffer, Northeastern State University wants you.

Golfers of all skill levels are invited to join the fun of the Liberty Mutual Green and White Golf Classic presented by the NSU Alumni Association.

The event is Friday, Oct. 14 at Cherry Springs Golf Club in Tahlequah. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and play begins at 10. The golf tournament is one event designed for homecoming week Oct. 9-15.

There will be a mix of holes with creative rules, said Daniel Johnson, director of alumni services. If we have the same weather we had last year, there will be no better place for NSU alumni to spend midday.

Entry fee is $75 per player for Alumni Association members and $90 for non-members, and includes green fee, cart rental, lunch, beverages and a gift bag. The event is open to NSU alumni, faculty, staff and the community.

Participants will play in six-person teams, said Johnson. We see teams made up of alumni from fraternities and campus groups, corporate teams and teams made up of old friends who havent seen each other for years.

NSUs 2011 homecoming week will have a superheroes theme with the motto Truth, Justice and the Northeastern Way.

The week begins with Paint the Town Green on Muskogee Avenue and concludes with the football game at 2 p.m. against Harding at Doc Wadley Stadium, and womens soccer vs. Central Oklahoma at 7 p.m. at Dr. Dan F. DeLoache Field.

Also, NSU will present its annual awards to distinguished alumni. Former educator and lifelong volunteer Mary Battenfield (60) of Tulsa, actor-playwright Joe Sears (72) of Austin, Texas, and past educator and legislator Barbara Staggs (63) of Muskogee will each be honored as Distinguished Alumni. Country music star Carrie Underwood (06) will be recognized as Distinguished Young Alumna and former state attorney general Drew Edmondson (68) of Oklahoma City will receive the Presidents Award for Community Service.
