NSU's Watson scheduled for clarinet recital at Jazz Lab

(Tahlequah, Okla.)--Dr. Anne Watson will perform a clarinet recital Nov. 14 at the Jazz Lab at 7 p.m., accompanied by Farren Mayfield and assisted by Dr. Shannon Unger. Dr. Watson is the assistant professor of clarinet at Northeastern State University.

The recital is free and open to the public. Featured composers on the program include Carlos Guastavino, Andre Bloch, Richard Belcastro, Rodney Rogers and Arturo Mrquez.

I decided to pick pieces that were much less traditional and more whimsical than the standard clarinet repertoire, Watson said. Of the pieces I am playing, I have only performed one of them before. Everything else is completely new to me. Learning a completely new repertoire for a performance keeps me on my toes.

Watson said the program selections offer broad appeal for the audience.

The music will include Latin influences, Classical French and Romantic German influences and even a piece that uses David Bowie excerpts, she said. There is something interesting in this concert for everyone.

Mayfield will accompany on piano and Unger, NSU assistant professor of music, will be heard as well.

Farren is a very talented musician and an excellent colleague I cant say enough good things about him, Watson said. It is always a pleasure to collaborate with Dr. Unger and I am delighted to include music which will highlight her vocal expertise.
