Keezer first guest of NSU's Green Country Jazz Series

(Tahlequah, Okla.)--Northeastern State Universitys critically acclaimed Jazz Ensemble opens NSUs 2011-12 Green Country Jazz Series accompanying the artistry of pianist Geoffrey Keezer.

The ensemble performs with Keezer on Oct. 2 at 5 p.m. at the Jazz Depot in Tulsa . Keezer and the ensemble open the Green Country series Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. at the NSU Jazz Lab in Tahlequah.

Keezer is really a brilliant musician, said Dr. Tommy Poole, NSU director of jazz studies. He is a natural groover and high energy player balanced with an amazing artistic intellect. He has a wide rhythmic, harmonic and melodic vocabulary from which to work.

A native of Eau Claire, Wis., Keezer has recorded 11 solo albums and worked with renowned musicians across many genres. His most recent CD release, UREA was nominated for a Grammy as best Latin jazz album in 2009.

Other albums include Wildcrafted and Falling Up. He has collaborated with Diana Krall, Joshua Redman, Christian McBride, Kenny Barron, Keola Beamer and Yasukatsu Oshima.

The Jazz Depot is at 111 E. First St. in Tulsa. General admission is $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and college students and $5 for high school students and younger. Children 12-under are admitted free. For tickets or more information call 918-281-8600.

The Green Country Jazz Series is made possible through support by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Oklahoma Arts Council. It is presented by the NSU College of Liberal Arts and the Department of Performing Arts.
