NSU to host lectures by economist Lawson on Oct. 10

(Tahlequah and Broken Arrow, Okla.)--Dr. Robert Lawson of the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University will discuss the topic of global economic freedom at NSUs Tahlequah and Broken Arrow campuses Oct. 10.

The lecture Economic Freedom Around the World will be delivered by Lawson in the auditorium of the W. Roger Webb Educational Technology Center at 2:30 p.m. and the Administrative Services auditorium on the Broken Arrow campus at 7 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

This offers our campuses and the community a chance to hear from a luminary in the field of economics, said Dr. Isaac Diianni, assistant professor of economics and an organizer of Lawsons visit. His Economic Freedom of the World reports are widely cited in economics journals.

Lawson is the Jerome M. Fullinwider Chair in Economic Freedom in SMUs ONeil Center for Global Markets and Freedom. He is also co-author of Economic Freedom of the World. Information concerning Lawsons research is available on the Free the World website.

From 2008-2011 Lawson was an associate professor in the Department of Finance and director of the Economic Freedom Initiative at Auburn University. From 1996-2008 he taught at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, where he held the George H. Moor chair.

Lawson is co-author of the Economic Freedom of the World annual report which provides an economic freedom index for over 140 countries. He has been published in several journals including Public Choice, Cato Journal and Kyklos. He earned his bachelors degree in economics from the Honors Tutorial College at Ohio University and graduate degrees in economics from Florida State University.
