Movember activities planned at Dec. 6 NSU basketball game

Published: 2011-12-02

(Tahlequah, Okla.)--Movember activities are planned in conjunction with the Northeastern State womens basketball game vs. Emporia State on Dec. 6 at Jack Dobbins Field House.

Movember is a month-long effort to raise awareness of mens health issues such as prostate cancer and depression.

Students at NSU are celebrating Movember with a best mustache competition and ladies can compete for best fauxstache. The contests are open to the public. Winners will be announced and awarded prizes at the game. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. Other prizes will be given away. Plus, there will be a silent auction.

Proceeds from Movember will support the new Survivors 2 Scholars scholarship recently established by the NSU Student Foundation.

Survivors 2 Scholars will be an annually funded scholarship awarded, starting in fall 2012, to one female and one male student affected by cancer. A recipient may be a cancer survivor, or have an immediate family member who survived or was a victim of cancer.

Movember began in 1999 in Australia as an annual event involving the growing of mustaches for charity during November. A mo is Australian slang for a mustache.
