NSUOCO hosting Optometric 5K

Published: 2011-09-27

This years event takes place on Nov. 5 at 9 a.m. at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. Registration is $15 and begins at 7:30 a.m.

Competitive and recreational runners can register for the Oklahoma College of Optometrys 21st annual Optometric Classic 5K run/walk.

The American Optometric Student Association hosts this event each year to raise funds to send students to the American Optometric Association national convention, said student organizer Jason Koschmeder. Funds also promote other optometric student activities and events.

Medals are awarded to the top male and female and first three finishers in each category. Age categories are 8-under, 9-14, and five-year increments up to age 80.

We thank the community for participating and its great to watch the race grow, Koschmeder said. We hope the community can join us again to help us meet our fitness goals and spend the morning with fellow runners, joggers, and walkers.

Runners can pre-register by mailing a form to NSUOCO, Attn: Optometric Classic/Jason Koschmeder, 1001 N. Grand Ave., Tahlequah, Okla., 74464-7107. Checks should be made payable to AOSA. Forms are available on campus and around Tahlequah.

Registration by e-mail is available by writing to Koschmeder at nsuoptometryrun@yahoo.com. A digital form will be sent which can be printed and mailed with payment.

The entry fee includes post-race beverages. Door prizes are also awarded after the race. Sanctioned by the USA Track and Field commission, the 5K usually draws 150-200 participants.
