Pack the House Pink

Published: 2011-10-27

(Tahlequah, Okla.)--To enhance understanding of breast cancer and to support a new scholarship, Northeastern State University is hosting Pack the House Pink during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Pack the House Pink is in conjunction with the NSU-Southwestern football game at 2 p.m. on Oct. 29 at Doc Wadley Stadium.

This year proceeds from Pack the House Pink will support the new Survivors 2 Scholars scholarship established in September 2011 by the NSU Student Foundation. Funds will be used to grow the endowment.

Once mature, this will be an annually funded scholarship that we will begin awarding to one female and one male student next fall, Moore said The endowment will support students whose lives have been affected by cancer. The student could be a cancer survivor, or have an immediate family member who survived or was a victim of cancer.

Pack the House Pink starts before the game with tailgating at noon in the north parking lot adjacent to the stadium. The first 30 tailgate cooks will receive pink aprons.

We will be giving pink polo shirts to the coaching staff and asking the players to wear pink tape and laces, said Penny Moore, director of annual giving and NSU Student Foundation adviser. We want to see everyone in the stadium wearing pink.

Pack the House Pink T-shirts will be available for $10 at the RiverHawk Shoppes on the Tahlequah and Broken Arrow campuses. Supporters are asked to wear the shirts to the Oct. 29 game.

Moore said participation in Pack the House Pink does more than support the fight against cancer.

This will also help students on campus, she said. Of course we stand behind anything that combats this disease, but supporting students is what our university is all about.

Pack the House Pink is organized by the NSU Student Foundation. For more information call 918-444-4214.
