NSU to dedicate Redmen Heritage Wall on April 21

Published: 2012-01-05

With construction nearing completion, the Redmen Heritage Wall at Northeastern State University will be officially dedicated during a ceremony April 21, 2012, at 2 p.m.

The dedication will be part of NSU's Green and White Weekend festivities that include award ceremonies for academic achievement and the annual Green and White football game which concludes spring drills. The wall ceremony precedes the game.

"This is a project which has heartfelt meaning to many people," said Daniel Johnson, director of alumni services. "We look forward to giving it a formal dedication and sharing it with all our alumni and friends who have been a part of its construction."

The Redmen Heritage Wall, funded mostly by donations, commemorates NSU's Redmen era and the former site of Gable Field. It also honors students who attended as Redmen. The remaining wall of the old Gable Field northeast of the John Vaughan Library is the project's cornerstone.

The ceremony is open to the public. Those making contributions to the wall's construction will receive invitations.

Johnson said contributions to the project are always welcome, citing the need for upkeep.

"Fundraising for the Redmen Heritage Wall will be continuous," he said. "Bleacher plaques, paver stones and bricks are available for purchase on an ongoing basis. Construction is nearly funded, but we encourage further donations to ensure maintenance of this project."

Those interested in making donations to the Redmen Heritage Wall may contact the Office of Alumni and Development at 918-458-2143, or access a dedicated Web page and make online contributions.

Visiting the Redmen Heritage Wall web page allows donors to make $100, $250, $350 and $1,000 donations and specify the text they wish engraved on a brick or paver stone.

A $100 donation purchases a 4x8-inch brick and two lines of print with up to 13 characters per line. A $250 gift buys an 8x8 brick and five 13-character lines. A paver with seven 20-character lines is acquired by donating $350. Those donating $1,000 receive a bleacher plaque and must contact the Office of Alumni and Development to discuss the engraving.

The Web page also includes construction photos and renderings of the Redmen Heritage Wall and a video explaining the origination of the monument.
