(Tahlequah, Okla.)--Giving potential students a glimpse of campus life, Northeastern State Universitys annual RiverHawk Rally is Nov. 12 at the Tahlequah campus.
Registration begins at 9:45 a.m. and the rally begins at 10:30 a.m. Tentative plans call for the rally to begin in the NSU Center for the Performing Arts. Students will visit the University Center, residence halls and other buildings on NSUs campus. RiverHawk Rally is organized by the Office of High School and College Relations.
This is a preview of campus life that we offer high school juniors and seniors, said Emily Konieczny, assistant director of high school and college relations. "Doing this on a Saturday allows students to visit without missing a day of school. And many of our faculty are not teaching classes.
This lets us introduce these students to our faculty in a large day-long event. About 500 students and their families attend a typical RIverHawk Rally.
When visiting the University Center, the high school students will have the opportunity to talk with NSU faculty about possible courses of study.
The direct interaction with faculty can ease some student anxiety about what classes are required or what jobs are available to particular degree-holders, Konieczney said. The faculty members are NSUs best selling point. Student organizations will also have booths to offer information about their activities. And staff will provide information on admissions and financial aid processes.
After the rally, visiting students can attend the NSU-Midwestern State football game for free. Plus, these visiting students will receive a complimentary T-shirt and lunch on the practice field. Students can also visit with the pre-game tailgaters in the north parking lot of Doc Wadley Stadium.
Konieczny said the rally is a great opportunity and learning experience for any high school juniors or seniors considering NSU.
The high school students get an understanding of life as an NSU student, she said. We encourage them to bring their families. They wont be hanging out all day with four people from our department. We have about 70 volunteers who enthusiastically ensure that our RiverHawk Rally visitors have a fun experience.
Free registration is available on the Department of High School and College Relations Web site.
