Illinois River Arts & Crafts Festival set for Nov. 9-11

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Showcasing some of northeast Oklahoma's most talented artists, the Illinois River Arts & Crafts Festival is Nov. 9-11 in the University Center Sen. Herb Rozell Ballroom at Northeastern State University.

Hours are 10 a.m. 6 p.m. (Friday), 9 a.m. 6 p.m. (Saturday) and 11 a.m. 5 p.m. (Sunday). The event is open to the public and admission and parking are free.

"Even at this early stage, we've already received commitments from about a dozen vendors," said Debbie Bond, organizer of the event. "We even draw artisans from Oklahoma City and Arkansas. A lot of people visit the festival to find extraordinary holiday gifts."

The festival includes vendor booths featuring an array of traditional to modern arts and crafts. Food and beverages are also available. Items for sale often include handmade jewelry, wooden board games, homemade soaps, candle makers, handmade furniture, wood crafts, scarves, fiber crafts, homemade dyes and sweaters and much more.

Ten-foot square display booths are available for $75 for all three days. There are no age restrictions and vendors of all ages may apply. Multiple artists may share a booth if information for each is listed on the application.

Vendors re supplied up to two tables and chairs for set-up and electricity will be provided if needed. Other items used for displays are the responsibility of the artist.

The Illinois River Arts & Crafts Festival, an annual event in the 1980s and '90s, returned to NSU in 2010.

"I would particularly like to extend an invitation to the NSU community," Bond said. "Students, faculty and staff who produce arts and crafts are welcome to set up booths. If necessary, we can set up booths in the hallway outside the ballroom, the first floor lobby of the University Center or even Second Century Square. Our space is not limited and we can accommodate as many vendors as wish to participate."
