Bridgmon named dean of NSU College of Liberal Arts

(Tahlequah, Okla.)--Northeastern State University has announced Dr. Phillip Bridgmon as its dean of the College of Liberal Arts.

Bridgmon was named dean on Feb. 14. Currently, he is chair of the Department of Criminal Justice at the University of Northern Alabama. He assumes his duties at NSU on July 16. Dr. Mike Chanslor will serve as interim dean until Bridgmon arrives.

On behalf of the search and screen committee, we are delighted that Dr. Bridgmon will be joining the NSU family, said Dr. Pamela Hathorn, committee chair. We look forward to working with him and to the expertise he brings that will complement the mission of the College of Liberal Arts.

Founder of UNAs Department of Criminal Justice in 2007, Bridgmon earned his bachelors degree in psychology from UNA in 1996. He holds a masters of criminal justice and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Alabama. He also completed Harvard Universitys Management Development Program in 2011.

While UNA undergoes the process of reaccreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Bridgmon serves on the universitys SACS Leadership Team and chairs its Quality Enhancement Plan. He is also a professor of political science and criminal justice.

During his career in education, Bridgmon has taught at James Madison University, Grand Valley State University, the University of Alabama and Shelton State Community College.

Bridgmon is coauthor of Justice and the Policy Process, Second Edition, Balancing Justice: Power, Politics and Privilege and E-Politics: Technology in American Government.
