TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- The Northeastern State University/Community Chorus, under the direction of Vaughn Roste, will present its annual Christmas concert Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. in the Center for the Performing Arts on the NSU campus.
The concert is open to the public. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and are available at the door.
The choir has been honored with an invitation to perform with the Tulsa Oratorio Chorus in its Side-by-Side concert with the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra at the Performing Arts Center in Tulsa on Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. Tickets for the Tulsa concert are on sale at the PAC box office.
We are very much looking forward to this artistic collaboration, said Vaughn Roste, director of choral activities at NSU. It is gratifying to receive recognition for our efforts beyond the local stage and it will be very fun to perform with members of the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra.
The Tahlequah program includes the Gloria by John Rutter, the Beatus vir by Claudio Monteverdi and a set of carols.
We will be presenting our own short set of Canadian Christmas compositions and arrangements of traditional carols as well, Roste said. Its fun to be able to highlight music from my home and native land.
The Tulsa program will include the first movements of the Rutter and Antonio Vivaldis Gloria as well as the Hallelujah Chorus from Handels Messiah.
Membership in the NSU/Community Chorus is open to any student or member of the Tahlequah community. New members will be accepted at the first rehearsal on Jan. 15, 2013. Rehearsals are held in Room 301 of Fine Arts from 7-9:45 p.m. on Tuesdays. For information call Roste at 918-444-2715.
