Published: 2012-08-14

(Tahlequah, Okla.)--Tahlequah residents, as well as Northeastern State University alumni, faculty and staff are invited to show their support for the NSU RiverHawks football team at the community-wide pep rally Tuesday, Aug. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at Norris Park.

The NSU RiverHawks football season opens Thursday, Aug. 30 when they take on the NCAA Division II defending national champions Pittsburg (Kan.) State University. The RiverHawks take on the Gorillas at Gable Field at 6 p.m. This is the first game the RiverHawks will play as members of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. One hundred (100) free tickets to the Thursday game will be given away at the pep rally.

At the pep rally, the Tahlequah Fire Department will be cooking hotdogs, NSU cheerleaders will cheering and the NSU Marching Band will pep everyone up with rousing tunes. NSU football players and coaches will also be in attendance, with a few words from head football Coach Kenny Evans expected.

If free hot dogs, chips and soft drinks, along with the marching band, football players, coaches and cheerleaders arent enough to help raise that RiverHawk spirit, at dark there will be a special Movie in the Park.

Tahlequah Main Street Association is pleased to be a part of this event, said Drew Haley, TMSA director. Its going to be a fun evening for everyone, and its another way that TMSA is engaged with downtown.

The community-wide pep rally is sponsored by the Tahlequah Area Chamber of Commerce, Tahlequah Main Street Association, Northeastern State University, Reasor's and Love Bottling.
